Welcome to Choice Counselling

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming, and it can be hard to know where to turn. I offer adolescents and adults a warm, confidential space, where you can talk openly, feel heard and work through whatever is troubling you, at your own pace.

I draw on approaches including CBT, EMDR, DBT, Choice Theory and Mindfulness, tailoring our work to your individual needs.

I can support you with:

  • Anxiety and stress – feeling overwhelmed, worried or finding it difficult to switch off.

  • Trauma and PTSD – working through difficult or distressing experiences.

  • School and college issues – exam stress, organisational difficulties, lack of motivation and school or college avoidance.

  • Challenging life changes – children leaving home and other significant life changes

  • Depression and low mood – when life feels difficult or you are struggling to find enjoyment in everyday activities.

  • Burnout – feeling emotionally and physically exhausted by ongoing demands or pressures.

  • Bullying – coping with the emotional impact of bullying and building confidence.

  • Support for parents and guardians – understanding the difficulties a young person may be experiencing and exploring ways to support them.

Contacting a Counsellor for the first time may feel like a huge step. This is totally understandable. Be assured I will do my best to put you at ease so we can explore your difficulties in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential way. You can book a session below, or if you'd prefer to talk to me first or ask a few questions before booking, please feel free to get in touch.

A little about me

Just to tell you a little about myself, so you can get to know me and feel more comfortable if you decide to book a session.

I am a professional Counselling Therapist, accredited with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MIACP) since 2020 and Garda-vetted. I am also an accredited member of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (2004).

My approach to counselling is Person-Centred. This means that I believe it is important for you to feel listened to, understood and accepted, without fear of being judged. Everyone is different, and I will take the time to understand your individual needs and the difficulties you may be experiencing.

Alongside this approach, I draw on the knowledge and skills I have gained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Choice Theory and, more recently, EMDR Therapy. These approaches help me to tailor our sessions to your individual needs and circumstances.

Having retired from my role as a Guidance Counsellor, I bring over 20 years of experience supporting and advising young people. This has given me a good understanding of the challenges they can face as they move through adolescence and into adulthood. I also understand the concerns parents and guardians may have when they are worried about a young person and want to find ways to support them.

My aim is to provide a warm, supportive and confidential space where you feel comfortable talking about what is troubling you. You don't need to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin. We can take things one step at a time, in a way that feels right for you.
